09:15

Biotech Perspectives: Competition at a crossroads

For leaders in the biotech industry, every success seems to bring on a new set of challenges.  The Summit participants will receive case study background on a previously sleepy area of therapeutic development that is now becoming a hotbed of competition.  The participants will be organized in teams and given their case study before the break. After the break, the teams meet to discuss their case study and develop recommendations for the CEO.

09:45

Biotech Perspectives: What should the CEO do?  (Breakout team discussions)

Instructions: Biotech leaders may have one of the most difficult general management roles in industry. They often reach the executive suite through a particular functional expertise (research, finance, commercial). Soon, however, they face challenges that require an integrated understanding of multiple disciplines. Each team will discuss a situation where a CEO must lead in an area that is outside of his/her comfort zone. The participants will be asked to develop recommendations for the CEO of their case study.

10:15

Teams Reconvene: Each team will present the specific challenges the CEO of their company faced and their recommendations for handling the situation.

Market Access – It’s always too early, until it’s too late – thinking globally & staying ahead of the game

Market access has been a critical, and increasingly complex, issue in the industry for almost 20 years now, yet many leave planning to the last minute. Reimbursement is the key to operating cash flow for a medicine, a more accurate valuation and better alignment in business development discussions, yet many companies leave planning until after regulatory and clinical programs are finalized. Better and earlier access planning creates a better understanding of evidence and data needs for both payers and capital needs, more accurate net pricing estimates, and ultimately, a more realistic valuation model with fewer downside surprises.
